Dogs cannot inform their owners if they feel unwell or if they are in pain. However, if a dog had suddenly changes its normal state of behavior, it signifies underlying health problems. In this case, dog owners must immediately consult their dog to the veterinarian.

Here are some possible signs that dogs have health or illness problems:

• Dogs refuse to eat or basically eating less from its normal daily intake
• Dogs are becoming unwilling and lethargic of playing or even going for a walk
• Dogs appear to be in pain or depressed
• Dogs appear to have physical symptoms of vomiting or diarrhea
• Dogs’ behavior appears very unusual in many ways

Below are some helpful health care tips for dog owners in any case that above problems are most likely happening to their dogs:

For the Eyes

• The eyes of the dogs should be wipe around every with the use of an individual piece (for each eye) of damp cloth of cotton wool.
• Perform a weekly check on the dogs’ eyes to ensure that they are free from discharge, healthy, clear and clean. Any signs of abnormalities, cloudiness, discharge and inflammation should be reported immediately to the veterinarian.
• If the dogs’ eyes happen to be infected or soring, it should be prevented from paw scratching or rubbing against the furniture since this will cause further damage
• If the dogs’ eyes have become seriously injured, it should be covered with a damp piece of bandage or gauze. More likely, it should seek immediate assistance from the veterinarian

For the Ears

• At least once a week, gently wipe the inside portion of the dogs’ ears with a separate piece of damp cloth of cotton wool (for every ear)
• Do not use cotton buds to clean the ears of the dogs since dog’s ears get damaged easily. Also cotton buds are more likely to push the wax further inside the dogs’ ears
• Dogs with long ears should be given extra care since bacteria and dirt are more likely to build-up because of oiliness. With the build-up of bacteria and dirt, problems might easily result
• If the dogs’ ears appear to have excess discharge and earwax it should be reported immediately to the veterinarian. Just the same, any signs of ear scratching or head shaking should be reported as well.

For the Mouth, Teeth and Gums

• With the use of a soft toothbrush or finger brush, the dogs’ teeth should be brush at least twice a week. Ask the veterinarian for the recommended special canine toothpaste if possible
• It is not recommended to use human toothpaste for dogs
• If the dog is not comfortable using the recommended toothbrush above, use a wrapped piece of cloth or towel around your finger and use it to clean the teeth of your dog
• The dog’s mouth should be inspected on a regular basis to ensure that its teeth and gums rare healthy. Dogs’ teeth and gums should be examined by veterinarian on an annual basis.
• Any signs of bleeding gums, bad breath, excessive drooling and other related problems should be immediately reported to the veterinarian.
• Dog owners should be aware that gum disease and tooth decay might lead to other health problems for their dogs that include kidney, liver and heart disease
