A Dog is Happiest if He is Groomed
Of course, grooming does not mean the same things to an animal that taking a bath or hygiene means to us. For us, it means that we feel fresh, are acceptable for socialization and for many of us keeping clean helps us rest better at night. For a dog, it usually means that he engages in more activities with a human when he gets groomed and afterwards scratches less. Yet, he probably does not connect the lack of scratching with the bath; he simply does not have to think about ridding himself of fleas. Yes, a scratching dog is an irritable dog and usually one that has other health problems such as blood loss from other insect bites, possibly worms and in general suffers from neglect. If an animal is not cared for with regards to cleanliness, it often means that he goes without most of his medical needs met Grooming is only a part of what it takes to have a healthy animal, but is extremely important. And, it should be understood that a healthy pet is a happy dog.
When a pet is clean, he is not the only one that is happy, you as his owner will also be happier as fleas are not going to be a part of your home. Those pests are a huge reason for bathing and keeping your dog’s coat clean. A thick coat is one of the major places these pests multiply and begin to jump from to become a part of your furniture. So if you and your friend want to live happily together you need to start by keeping him as pest free as possible. Not to mention the fact that most domesticated animals enjoy being groomed, they enjoy any activity that involves them with a human that they like.
It is not to be forgotten that canines grow up and live to socialize, and will be shunned by us and their peers if they are not groomed to fit the specifications of modern society. Dogs and people alike do not want to be around bad breath or a dog filled with fleas. So, don’t forget that brushing his teeth freshens his breath and if he is not scratching he will have more friends.
In the United States there are more and more doggy day care centers and dog parks opening where you’re pet is free to socialize with the other animals. How do you think he is going to feel if his friend runs away from him because of his bad breath? Or, how do you think your best friend is going to feel if he is flirting with a bitch and her owner makes her leave him alone because there are fleas on him? Yes, dogs do suffer from social anxieties; I would hate to think of what his doctor would say if fleas were the cause of his stress. Not to mention how much that visit with his doctor would cost you. A lonely dog is a sad dog. So keep your best friend groomed, so he will be able to happily socialize and love you for every minute that he does not have live in discomfort.
